Get Involved
ReStore Letter from the President, Jennifer Offenberger – Summer, 2010
Ahhh Summer…gotta love these warm days. Just as the days get a little longer this time of year, so it goes with our fun downtown events. As I write this, I am eagerly awaiting great tunes with the Mayor’s Third Friday Jubilee, the sweet taste of corn for this weekend’s Sweet Corn Festival and sweet treats at the Broughton Ice Cream Social as well! Can’t believe our final summer Merchant’s & Artist Walk is just a few weeks away either- August 13. There’s so much more going on with ReStore now, that you should know about too!
It’s official! We are formerly Emerging Members of Heritage Ohio and Main Street. We look at it this way. Would you undertake the remodeling of your home without a blueprint? Probably not. The same applies on a broader scale when it comes to downtown revitalization. That is why the Main Street Program methodology works. We’re currently scheduling a consultation visit with Heritage Ohio to assess ReStore’s progress over the past few years and to gain guidance during the next phase of our work. We hope to have that visit complete by September. We’ll share their feedback with you as well. Just as maintenance of your home and property affect its value, updating you kitchen and baths can add value and the same holds true with your Downtown. The sum of the residential neighborhood plus its commercial area determines the overall value of Marietta. We’re excited to learn more from this visit.
During these challenging times it is so good to see new businesses opening and others re-opening. We welcome them with open arms and urge you to support all of the businesses and learn about the variety of services offered. Congratulations to Adelphia; the Marietta Wine Cellar; The Cook Shop; Riverside Artist Gallery, A Unique Flower and Gift Shop, and Over the Moon Pizza. Join us in welcoming and supporting our local stores. Remember, when we shop locally, we keep our town thriving!
Finally, an update on hiring a part-time Coordinator. We’re finishing final interviews this month with the intention to make an offer in early August. We’re also excited to say we may have a storefront by early fall thanks to People’s Bank of Marietta. More to come once those details are ironed out!
In the meantime, we continue to thank you for your support and interest and encourage you to get involved! Enjoy these wonderful last days of summer.
How you can help Marietta
ReStore Marietta is all about keeping our community a great place to live, work and play. Here’s how you can help:
Become a Supporter. Join the businesses, individuals, and families who help our downtown by making an annual tax-deductible donation to ReStore Marietta. Any amount is welcome. As we continue to be challenged with shrinking budgets, especially within our city finances, your support means so much.
Become a Friend. The Friends level is a special level of giving designed to maintain connections between
Main Street and the individuals and families who love our downtown events and are and shops. The Friends giving category begins at just $50. Learn more at www.restoremarietta.org.
Volunteer. ReStore Marietta is run by a group of individuals who volunteer their time. So much of the work we do depends on the efforts of volunteers. There are countless ways you can contribute. For more information, call Jennifer Offenberger at 740-374-1797.
